Steer Sports supported the South Australian Athletic League (SAAL) to develop and secure funding for a project focused on strengthening volunteer capability, improving succession planning and supporting long-term organisational sustainability.
SAAL, like many community-based sporting organisations, faced challenges in maintaining a sustainable volunteer base, supporting capability development and planning for future leadership and workforce needs.
These challenges were impacting long-term organisational resilience and the ability to sustain participation and delivery.
Steer Sports worked with SAAL to:
Clarify key workforce and volunteer challenges
Develop a structured sustainability initiative
Align the project with South Australian Government priorities
Prepare a funding submission through the Sector Support Program
Design a delivery framework focused on capability, retention and succession
Funding successfully secured through the South Australian Government Sector Support Program
Establishment of a structured workforce and volunteer sustainability initiative
Stronger foundation for long-term organisational planning
This project demonstrates Steer Sports’ ability to:
Translate organisational challenges into fundable initiatives
Align projects with government priorities and funding programs
Develop practical and structured responses to workforce sustainability
Support organisations to move from concept to funded delivery
This work reflects Steer Sports’ broader focus on supporting sport organisations to strengthen participation, capability and sustainability through targeted strategy, funding and program design.
